Pythagoras in Boots
I studied product design in college and Dutch design has always interested me. I hadn’t dedicated a detailed illustration to Johan Cruyff yet and It occurred to me that one of the the most famous Dutch products is the ‘Cruyff Turn’ which would in turn make Cruyff a designer himself. If I could infuse a print of him with some Dutch design principles this observation could come full circle. The Dutch have the ability to make fun of themselves and their work has a way of combining things that usually don’t combine at all. So here I tried to illustrate this by visually incorporating his nickname, Pythagoras in Boots, into his playing style.

BUNDESLIGA DOUBLE

Ahead of the all German Champions League Final, I have made an exclusive piece of artwork for each team. One plays off Bayern’s nickname ‘FC Hollywood’ while the other exalts the unbelievable support of Dortmund. I hope you enjoy them! :)

RETROVISION
I’m experimenting with illustrating footballers in the way most people would be familiar with seeing them. Here’s Maradona displayed in the way old TV’s would have broadcast images of him. There’s grain and colour drag and some blur. I’m still figuring ways of rendering the distortions. This is a quick experiment. I’m hoping to move onto black and white and also pixelated 240p youtube style illustrations. High-res

LOST IN THE GAME
I finally amalgamated all my illustrations from my ‘Lost in the Game’ series. I tried to visualise football sayings and clichés. There’s also notable personalities and cultural nods. Basically if you play football or love the game you should spot a few familiar things. I am a Liverpool fan so I tracked a few moments from Liverpool’s Champions League winning season too.
Hope you enjoy! :) High-res
