Puyol won this match with a colossal flying header. I’ll always remember his run for it. When the corner is swinging in he isn’t even in the picture. He seems to jump from the halfway line and crash the ball past Neuer. It was an amazing goal and fit to launch Spain into their first World Cup Final.

I love listening to The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast. On it, James Richardson regularly refers to Jonathan Wilson as a ‘floating football brain in a jar’ in a surreal compliment to his extensive football knowledge. Had this idea over Hallowe’en and then saw a Mike Mignola illustration that fit the bill so that explains the Gothic tone of the piece.
